Galium uliginosum
Ecology
A perennial herb of base-rich marshes and fens, usually in drier and more calcareous habitats than G. palustre, although the two may sometimes be found growing together. 0-750 m (Cross Fell, Cumberland).
Status
Trends
G. uliginosum has tended to be over-recorded in the past; in particular all records from N.W. Scotland are treated as doubtful and are not mapped. Some other early records may also be errors for G. palustre. Even allowing for this, analysis of the database reveals a widespread decline in this species since 1950. It was mapped as `all records` in the 1962 Atlas.
World Distribution
Eurasian Boreo-temperate element.
