An erect deciduous shrub found as a naturalised garden escape in woodland and in rough grassland. It is polyploid and probably apomictic. Lowland.

This plant was collected in China in 1908, but it was regarded as a variant of C. ambiguus until described as a distinct species in 1997. C. pseudoambiguus is rare in gardens and was not recorded from the wild until 1990 (Westmorland).
World Distribution
Native of W. China (Sichuan).
