A widely spreading deciduous shrub found as a naturalised garden escape on cliffs, in rough grassland and on waste ground. Reproduction is by seed. Lowland.

C. splendens is a relatively recent introduction into British gardens, but its precise date of introduction is unknown. It was recorded in the wild in Britain in 1981 (W. Cornwall) and remains rare.
World Distribution
Native of W. China (Sichuan).
