A large annual naturalised for short periods on damp ground, by rivers and on beaches. It also occurs as a casual in cultivated ground and waste places. It arises from bird- and carrot-seed, from grain and from wool shoddy. Lowland.
I. xanthiifolia was recorded from the wild in Britain by 1905, and appears to be less frequent than formerly.
Native of N. America; naturalised in Europe.
