An annual of arable fields, waste places and rubbish tips. It is introduced with wool shoddy and grain, and was formerly a weed of flax fields. Lowland.

Trends
L. remotum was recorded in the wild in Britain by 1863 (Surrey). It does not appear to have been recorded recently.
World Distribution
Origin obscure; widespread in temperate Europe where it was formerly more frequent as a weed in flax fields than it is today.
