Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. pseudonarcissus
A bulbous perennial herb of Fraxinus and Quercus woods, Pteridium stands, scrubby banks and pastures. In woodland it responds favourably to coppicing, but plant vigour decreases after hot, dry summers. Lowland.
There has been some decline in the distribution of subsp. pseudonarcissus recently, probably mainly due to changes in land use and management. The limits of its native range in our area are unclear; populations in semi-natural habitats in England and Wales are generally mapped as native unless evidence points to the contrary, but it is undoubtedly alien in Ireland and usually regarded as such in Scotland.
Suboceanic Temperate element; naturalised in Europe outside its native range.
