Ecology

A perennial herb known only on acidic, peaty moorland where it occurs mainly on the margins of Sphagnum mires in areas subject to some base-enrichment. From 75 m to 620 m (Scotsman`s Knowe, Cheviot.).

World Distribution

Subsp. cespitosum occurs throughout the Circumpolar Boreal-montane range of the species, except in those areas of N.W. Europe where it is replaced by subsp. germanicum.
